Employee Spotlight: Denver Shuman

R. J. Corman is a company that employs over 1,600 people around the country. These individuals include railroaders, office professionals, engineers, trainmasters, equipment operators and even more. Employee Spotlight features on the Mainline Online provide us an opportunity to celebrate and get to know some of our talented team members.

 This week’s spotlight is Denver Shuman, who was the first mechanic hired by Mr. Corman when he began the company. Denver is an employee known by all, who works hard on a daily basis and will always be sure to greet you whenever he passes by. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank him for his over 38 years of service to R. J. Corman.

 What would you say has been your biggest accomplishment while working at R. J. Corman?

“I think being able to stay at one company for almost four decades really goes without saying.”

 What is your favorite memory of Rick Corman?

“My favorite memory is the adventure of skiing in the Alps.”

 What do you like to do when you’re not working?

“When I’m not at work I spend my time working on my clock collection, several of them need fixing!”

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

“I think I would choose spaghetti.”

 If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

“I would like to be able to fly like an eagle.”

 Denver’s supervisor, Shane Gibson, spoke highly of Denver and the role he has played in the company’s continued progress. “Denver knows exactly what it takes to make a company successful and his experience with R. J. Corman is invaluable. He’s an inspiration to me, he not only works hard, but also reminds me on a daily basis how much the company has grown and how hard people have worked over the years to get us to this point.”

R. J. Corman Railroad Group, LLC Announces Appointment Of New Board Of Directors Member, Greg Fox

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – R. J. Corman Railroad Group, LLC appointed longtime railroad executive, Greg Fox, to serve on the company’s Board of Directors. Mr. Fox retired from his position as the Executive Vice President of Operations at Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway in August, a position in which he served for six years.

 

Fox’s thirty year tenure with BNSF began in 1984 when he entered the corporate management trainee program in Fort Worth, Texas. In the years following, he received several promotions and was given increased responsibility within the company. His impressive resume includes positions such as Assistant Vice President Information Systems, Vice President eBusiness, Vice President Technology Services, Chief Information Officer, Vice President of Engineering and Vice President of Transportation. 

 As the Executive Vice President of Operations, Greg was responsible for overseeing the organizational operations of 32,500 miles of track. This role required him to be knowledgeable about many facets of the railroad industry, including: track engineering, environmental impact, mechanics, transportation, safety, service design and resource protection. While serving in this position, he implemented a positive change in safety culture and made innumerable improvements throughout the company.

R. J. Corman Railroad Group, LLC Announces Appointment of New President and CEO, Edward Quinn III

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – R. J. Corman Railroad Group, LLC announced the appointment of Edward Quinn III to serve as the company’s new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective October 24, 2016. He will succeed Fred Mudge, Interim President and CEO. Mudge will continue to serve as the Chairman of the R. J. Corman Board of Directors.

 Quinn will rejoin R. J. Corman after having spent 22 years in industries such as transportation and manufacturing where he has held various leadership roles. He has diverse experience in engineering, marketing and sales, and the management of geographically dispersed operations teams. In his previous tenure at R. J. Corman, Quinn served as General Manager of the Material Sales Company and Vice President of the Derailment Services Company.
